Today an easy stroll in and around Oetz. We start from our hotel in Sautens, which is just a few kilometres away from the busy village Oetz. We stayed in Hotel Daniel in Sautens, ideally located on a panoramic position above the village of Sautens.

It was rather a cloudy day so the pictures are a bit darker than usually. Just imagine that scenery when the sun would have been shining.

Good to know:
Distance: 10,5 km
Rate: very easy
Altitude: between 775 - 1030 meters (start is at 900 m)
Map (incl. elevation information): Walk in and around Oetz (Austria)
GPS-track available for download: yes

And ALL pictures - and there are many - can be enlarged by clicking on them !!

The track takes us into a forest and towards Piburg. Piburg itself is a very small town with authentic houses.

Our last day in the Dolomites and we opt for a walk crossing the mountains and then to return by bus to our hotel. Do check at your hotel if the bus is going and when the latest bus is leaving from the bus station to bring you back to your starting point.
(but one could also take the bus and cable car up to Kompatsch and then walk back to the hotel)

Good to know:
Distance: 20 km
Rate: moderate
Altitude: Climb/descend more than 1400 meters in altitude
Map (incl. elevation information): Walk to Tierser Alpl Hutte (Sud-Tirol, IT)
GPS-track available for download: yes

And ALL pictures - and there are many - can be enlarged by clicking on them !!

We started from the parking lot of the Tschaminschwaige, which is situated only 15 minutes from the hotel and follow tracknr. 3 towards Rechter Leger. The first half hour the path goes up steadily but after that it is rather easy going for about 1 hour.

Finally we arrive at the Rechter Leger, which is situated at 1603 m.

Not a too long walk today, at least that is what we had in mind. But in the end this track was 18 kms long. And guess what: Elgar did not want to walk today - again. Instead he ordered us to take his girlfriend Rosa with us. We did not object as Rosa is much much smaller.

Good to know:
Distance: 18 km
Rate: easy
Altitude: Climb/descend more than 700 meters in altitude
Map (incl. elevation information): Walk at Ums (Sud-Tirol, IT)
GPS-track available for download: yes

The walk starts at a parking lot near the little church of Ums. Park your car here and follow track U.
The first few kilometers are along a forest with lovely views towards valleys with small villages. Be sure to watch out for birds as well; we saw lots of bullfinches and a black woodpecker just a few couple of meters away from us.

After a while the path will take you in a forest and from thereon it steadily goes up (the track has become nr. 2).

We opted for the walk to the "Tschafon Hutte" (1737m). Elgar still had to recover from the Baerenfalle walk and decided not to go with us. Why on earth did we call him the Hiking Moose? But oh well ..... it had one advantage: our backpack was much lighter today.

Good to know:
Distance: 14,5 km
Rate: easy, but the track is going up (and down again)
Altitude: Climb/descend more than 850 meters in altitude
Map (incl. elevation information): Dolomiten: Tschafon Hutte
GPS-track available for download: yes

From the hotel parking lot we walk towards Tiers (Tires). As to avoid the busy road, we walk along the Breibach (Rio Brie), a small water that flows all the way to Tiers. The track goes slightly downhill for about 2 kilometers. A short but steep climb up brings us to the town where you can buy something to drink and eat (not on Sundays of course)
Cross the town for a few hundred meters and then turn right, climb up some stairs and follow the track. You will get on track 6U again (see walk St. Zyprian), but this time upon entering the forest we turn right (Track 4).

The trail still goes uphill. We heard the sound of many cow bells but didn't see the cows until we reached the little St. Sebastian Chapel.

This round walk starts form the parking lot of Hotel Dosses in St. Zyprian. You will need a whole day for it, so be sure to watch the weather forecast. You do not want to be stuck in the so-called Baerenfalle or Teufelsschlucht when there is thunder & lightning with lots of rain. The area around St. Zyprian is known for the mountain range called "Rosengarten", which is part of the Dolomites.

Good to know:
Distance: 19 km
Rate: heavy, but not too difficult
Altitude: Climb/descend more than 1000 meters in altitude
Map (incl. elevation information): Dolomiten: Teufelsschlucht/Baerenfalle
Like said before, we started the walk from the parking lot of our hotel Dosses. During the first few kilometres you follow a paved road slowly gaining elevation (Track 6U). You will get great views on the surrounding area. In June the fields are covered with all kinds of flowers.
