On June 6th, 2008 we crossed the borders of Austria and Italy via a mountain pass at 2509m. This pass, called the Timmelsjoch (or Passo del Rombo) connects the Oetztal valley (Austria, Tirol) with the Passer Valley (Adige Valley) in the Italian province of Bolzano-Bolzen.

Here is a view into the Passer valley on our way up to the Pass itself.

The road on the Italian side is steep, bending and narrow but breathtaking. Definitely worth some stops along the way up (The pass is closed however for lorries and vehicles with trailers due to elevation, steepness and the narrow road).

Our last day in the Dolomites and we opt for a walk crossing the mountains and then to return by bus to our hotel. Do check at your hotel if the bus is going and when the latest bus is leaving from the bus station to bring you back to your starting point.
(but one could also take the bus and cable car up to Kompatsch and then walk back to the hotel)

Good to know:
Distance: 20 km
Rate: moderate
Altitude: Climb/descend more than 1400 meters in altitude
Map (incl. elevation information): Walk to Tierser Alpl Hutte (Sud-Tirol, IT)
GPS-track available for download: yes

And ALL pictures - and there are many - can be enlarged by clicking on them !!

We started from the parking lot of the Tschaminschwaige, which is situated only 15 minutes from the hotel and follow tracknr. 3 towards Rechter Leger. The first half hour the path goes up steadily but after that it is rather easy going for about 1 hour.

Finally we arrive at the Rechter Leger, which is situated at 1603 m.
