On June 14th 2008 we opt to go to Umhausen and specifically to the Stuibenfall, with a height of 159m Tyrol's highest waterfall.

Good to know:
Distance: 12 km
Rate: easy
Altitude: between 1044 - 1576 meters (start is at 1044 m)
Map (incl. elevation information): Walk to the Stuibenfall (Austria)
GPS-track available for download: yes

The track starts at Otzi-dorf, which one can visit as well (we did not as we had seen the real Otzi in a museum in Bolzano). The water stream is rather small here and you would not expect that there is a huge waterfall nearby. Finally there is a glimpse of a waterfall ......mmmhhh....not that huge, is our first thought.

Until ......you walk further towards the base of the waterfall and upon turning to the waterfall itself, you will understand why this is the highest waterfall of Tyrol.
If you look closely to the next picture you can spot a viewing platform on the left, all the way at the top. That is where we have to go.

The weather in the valley wasn't that bad at all today (June 13, 2008). Yesterday the morning had looked like this as well but very quickly the clouds dissolved. So...most probably that would happen today as well.......we thought.

Good to know:
Rate: Moderate (descend will at least take about 3 hours)
Altitude: between 0 - 2000 meters (start is at 2020 m)
Map (incl. elevation information): not available
GPS-track available for download: no

So we took the Acherkogel cable car (in Oetz) up to the center of the so called Hochoetz area, well know for its skiing facilities (in winter) and hiking opportunities (in summer). There is a huge panorama restaurant stationed at 2020m, directly at the Acherkogel lift upper station. Although....we were not able to detect it due to poor visibility. Even worse it started to snow !

Well, we do not give up that easily and started to walk up to the Bielefelder Hutte (2112m) to see if the weather would improve later on.

Today an easy stroll in and around Oetz. We start from our hotel in Sautens, which is just a few kilometres away from the busy village Oetz. We stayed in Hotel Daniel in Sautens, ideally located on a panoramic position above the village of Sautens.

It was rather a cloudy day so the pictures are a bit darker than usually. Just imagine that scenery when the sun would have been shining.

Good to know:
Distance: 10,5 km
Rate: very easy
Altitude: between 775 - 1030 meters (start is at 900 m)
Map (incl. elevation information): Walk in and around Oetz (Austria)
GPS-track available for download: yes

And ALL pictures - and there are many - can be enlarged by clicking on them !!

The track takes us into a forest and towards Piburg. Piburg itself is a very small town with authentic houses.

Our last day in the Dolomites and we opt for a walk crossing the mountains and then to return by bus to our hotel. Do check at your hotel if the bus is going and when the latest bus is leaving from the bus station to bring you back to your starting point.
(but one could also take the bus and cable car up to Kompatsch and then walk back to the hotel)

Good to know:
Distance: 20 km
Rate: moderate
Altitude: Climb/descend more than 1400 meters in altitude
Map (incl. elevation information): Walk to Tierser Alpl Hutte (Sud-Tirol, IT)
GPS-track available for download: yes

And ALL pictures - and there are many - can be enlarged by clicking on them !!

We started from the parking lot of the Tschaminschwaige, which is situated only 15 minutes from the hotel and follow tracknr. 3 towards Rechter Leger. The first half hour the path goes up steadily but after that it is rather easy going for about 1 hour.

Finally we arrive at the Rechter Leger, which is situated at 1603 m.
